Without much ado, Siselabonga open their second EP «Dindinma» with reverberating guitar riffs and catapult their listeners directly into the desert. On the back of repetitive drums and kora (West African harp), the voices of Tarang and Glauco ride through the sand and psychedelic spheres – sharing stories and childhood memories from Sene- gal and Southern Italy, rainy seasons and hospitality, expressing themselves in Mande, Wolof and Italian. Almost threateningly, the song «Dindinma» gallops towards a trance state, only to be gently brought back down to earth by the follow-up track. The sound aesthetic of «Metina» (Wolof for: it hurts) is strongly reminiscent of Siselabongas first album «Binta» (2017) - the electric guitar gives way to the acoustic, the drums to the calabash - and makes room for great feelings. The ballad is about the fear of death, personal loss and the pain that comes with it.
Still reminiscing but back on the electric, West African folk sound carpet, Siselabonga continue to dance through the desert sand and deliver with «Family» a rhythmic track about family, cohesion and old times. Before Siselabonga raise the tempo once again with «Sera Fall Bamba» and sing about Ibrahima Fall and the place of pilgrimage Touba with catchy Afropsychedelic melodies and ride back towards rapture, they throttle back once again and pause with «Toby». Dedicated to his niece Mama Toby, who is on the cusp from child to young adult, Tarang implores her to make something good out of her life. On «Toby», Tarangs vocals come to the fore, getting under the skin - until the djembe and congas also join in, turning the pause into a rising and a promise. «Dindinma» is a rollercoaster ride of memories and feelings, through desert dunes and ecstatic spheres of sound, past oasis, Senegal, southern Italy and Switzerland directly into the here and now.
